Founded around 1100 by the Benedictine order, partially destroyed and rebuilt in the XVth and XVIIth centuries, the Abbaye de Seuilly was made famous by author François Rabelais, who studied here. It is now home to the Permanent Centre for Environmental Initiatives in the Loire Valley (CPIE) and the Country Institute of the United Municipalities of the Left Bank of the Vienne. The gardens are dedicated to François Rabelais.
